Employees of the Directorate of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Lamphelpat staged a sit-in in front of the Directorate's gate today demanding the implementation of 7th Pay Commission's recommendation with effect from January 1, 2016.The employees have also demanded to nullify the MoU signed between Manipur Secretariat Service Association (MSSA), Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF), Manipur State Pensioners' Union (MSPU) and the State Government on June 8.Meanwhile, the cease work strikes have entered 121 days today and employees of various State Government Departments continue to organise sit-in-protests as part of the cease work strike, under the aegis of the JAC of AMTUC & AMGEO.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, SCERT Government Employees' Association general secretary Md Sanayai decried the State Government's negligent attitude with regards to the implementation of 7th Pay in the State.
He asserted that the State Government employees have been bearing the brunt of price hike of essential commodities in the State and the country, despite getting low and unequal pay structure from the Central Government employees as well as employees of other States.
He said that the employees of the Manipur Government are deeply pained as the State Government has been ignoring their demands till date although the Government had earlier promised of doing the same if it comes to power, during the time of election and even inserted the said point in the vision document of BJP.
Placards labelling "One Nation, one market, one pay; we demand implementation of 7th Pay", "No pay, no work; no 7th Pay, no any Governmental works" and 'Translate BJP's promise of implementing 7th Pay into action; implement 7th Pay at the earliest" and many others were displayed during the protest.
