Imphal, May 19 2013:
Ahead of the monsoon season, Yaiskul AC MLA E Chand today conducted a field inspection of the vulnerable sections of Imphal river bank within Yaiskul Assembly segment together with IFC officials.
Observing that many excavations dug up for construction of retaining walls on both banks of the river were left unfilled making them vulnerable to leakage and overflow of river water in the peak monsoon season, the MLA consulted with IFC officials about immediate precautionary measures.
The MLA and his team also made a direct assessment of the bridge construction work near Old Thumbuthong.
Taking advantage of the MLA's visit local people highlighted their apprehension about the possibility of the river bank getting breached in case the water volume of the river increases as large excavations made for erecting pillars of the new bridge are being left unfilled and incomplete.
E Chand directed the officials to strengthen all vulnerable sections of the river banks and take up all necessary precautionary measures at the earliest.
He said that a report would be sent to the concerned Minister to take up all necessary precautionary before the rainy season sets in fully.
