Imphal, June 16 2011:
The united spirit of the people which was showcased on June 18, 2001 still seems to have occurred only recently, said S Subita, who lost one leg in the mass uprising 10 years back.
Recalling the series of events, she had witnessed on that historic day, Subita said, she is hopeful that she could take part in such another uprising.
She was talking to reporters at AMUCO office today.
She added that it now seems that the united spirit of the people showcased on that day for the sake of territorial integrity of the state is no more with them.
If we look at the attitude of the present government, there is the need for building up a united strength of people to safeguard the territorial boundary of the state.
In her view, there is a need to relook into the view of the Centre to Manipur.
It will not be wise to remain disunited at this crucial time, she said observing that the ideology of helping the poor and the weaker sections of society seems not to be universally held.
Before she lost her leg, Subita used to earn her daily bread by selling vegetables in the market.
But since the day she lost her leg, she has been spending most of the time in bed.
Despite the odds faced by her after losing a leg, she still has the courage to take part in the people's movement for the territorial integrity of the state, she said.
She had never told to anybody that she has suffered.
Subita went on to say she keenly keeps abreast of news of what people and civil organisations are doing to save the integrity of the state.
The June 18 incident is being observed separately as "June 18 Uprising" and "Unity Day" by two separate organisations.
Subita told the reporters she does not go to offer tributes at Kekrupat where people pay floral tributes at the memorial site of the June 18 victims.
