Imphal, March 13 2012:
A suspected KYKL activist was killed in an encounter with a combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and 18 Sikh Regiment at Kabowakching under Nambol police station, police claimed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the family of the slain UG suspect identified as Meitram Ingotomba (35) of Leimaram in Imphal East, has asserted that he was an innocent farmer and that he had been shot and killed by security forces in a fake encounter.
According to family members, Ingotomba was whisked away by a group of armed men in civil dressed suspected to be security personnel on March 10 at around 7 pm from a local meat hotel while he was having a party along with some of his friends during the Yaoshang (Holi) festivities.
Since then, he remained untraceable until his body was found at RIMS morgue yesterday.
Protesting against the killing, villagers of Leimaram villagers today staged a demonstration at the village market and formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) in connection with the killing.
The JAC demanded that the culprits involved in the killing should be booked within March 14 that is tomorrow and threatened to take recourse to various intense agitations if the demand is not met.
