Imphal, May 21 2020:
The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Takyelpat handed over locally made hand sanitizers, bottled drinking water, 3 layered masks and face shields to different Community Quarantine Centres and other front liners in Imphal West today.
The statement informed that the initiative of free distribution of the above items was taken up under the initiative of director of IBSD Prof Pulok K Mukherjee to help meet the shortage of supplies faced due to the sudden influx of stranded returnees.
The items were distributed to CQCs of Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Manipur College, Pishumthong, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Khumbong, Imphal West Police, Singjamei PS and Patsoi PS.
The locally made face shields and hand sanitizers were distributed to Primary health centre (PHC), Khumbong.
IBSD had also earlier lent one 'Real Time-PCR' to JNIMS and other consumables for testing COVID-19 to State Health Department.
One RT-PCR and RNA Extraction equipment was also lent to RIMS, it added.
IBSD also distributed hand sanitizers to few media persons, police and sanitary workers of Imphal Municipal Council just before the announcement of the lockdown.
Meanwhile, many different group, individuals and CSOs also continue to extend help to COVID-19 affected people in the State.
BJP Thoubal
BJP Thoubal provided food items to two institutional quarantine centres opened for the district at the GNS hostel of District Hospital Thoubal and Waikhom Mani Girls; College Centre, today.
The BJP Thoubal team was led by its president Y Kumarjit.
On the other hand, a nominee of Heirok Nagar Panchayat Warn no 8's Councillor, Laishram Jiban donated face masks and hand sanitizers to every household of the ward, today.
AR assist Children and Orphan Homes
Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) in continuation to previous assistance further provided surgical masks and medicines to the children of Orphanage Home, Hnatham village, Chandel on May 15 .
In addition, RMO and medical team of this unit also interacted with the children and educated them on precautionary measures like frequent hand washing, basic hygiene, sanitization, social distancing and other measures to prevent spread of COVID-19.The RMO also measured the temperature of the children.
A Total of 400 reusable masks were also distributed to the villagers of Aimol Satu, Aimol Khunjai, Chingnunghut and Thamlapokpi villages of Chandel district on the same day.
The AR troops have been continuously contributing in the fight against the pandemic by conducting such activities and spreading awareness amongst the local population, it said.
Packed lunch provided
Proprietor of Longjam Hawai Food Production, Longjam Devaraj Meitei provided packed lunch and packaged water to the inmates staying in the Patsoi AC Quarantine Centre, to honour the memory of (L) Longjam Landhoni.
PPE kits were also provided to the volunteers working in the centre.
Cyclist Philem Rohan helps the needy
Well-known Manipuri cyclist Philem Rohan distributed household materials to about 62 houses in his locality from the money he had earned by selling T-shirts during his cycle ride campaign.
Rohan Philem who started out on a ride covering 10,000 kms from New Delhi to Tokyo for 'Rights of persons with disabilities' had to put the campaign on hold due to outbreak of coronavirus.
Rohan has been contributing to the fight against COVID-19 by extending financial help as well as distributing essential items to the needy.
He has contributed to the Local MLA COVID-19 Fund, financially taking care of a homeless, distributing food and money to differently abled and widows etc.
Rohan Philem expressed his aim to build a better society and said that he will continue his venture to assist those in need.
