Imphal, May 09 2012:
A man suffered grave injuries after being thrashed by a mob in an inter-village feud over distribution of compensation amount in connection with construction of Maphou Dam.
A person identified as Job Kasar (66) of Chadong Village, an affected village for the construction of Maphou Dam, was assaulted by angry villagers yesterday around 6.30 pm over the distribution of compensation, the Chadong Village Authority said.
A village Authority member, Job has been admitted at the RIMS hospital in a critical condition.
Addressing a press meet today at Nagaram here, a villager identified as Ashang Kasar said Chadong village under Litan PS in Ukhrul district is one of the six villages that are affected by the Maphou Dam.
He said compensations were given to four other affected villages while Chadong and Lamlai Khunou have been left out.
Ashang said Chadong villagers are divided into two groupsone who want to get compensation and the other who are opposed to the dam and hence the compensation.
Ashang also said that the defeat of an NPF candidate in Phungyar AC, who hails from the village, in the last Assembly election was another fuel that adds to the burning fire.
He added that a complaint was lodged with the Litan PS in connection with the incident.
