Imphal, July 31:
Out of 15 Higher Secondary Schools selected for physical upgradation under Additional Central Assistance (ACA), it was not only Lilong Higher Secondary School where lack of quality control was evident but it has been found that there was no quality control in the construction work of the Johnstone Higher Secondary School building.
The building inaugurated on December 14, 2006 has now developed cracks at several points and several portions of the ceiling have worn away.
Moreover, the roof has develop leaks thereby causing great inconveniences to students on rainy days.
As such for any eventuality arising out of the failure to repair the building within August, all those involved in the construction of the building should be held responsible, warned DESAM.
Speaking to reporters at Johnstone School this afternoon, DESAM education secretary Arambam Thoithoi iterated that out of 15 Higher Secondary Schools selected for physical upgradation, some portion of Lilong Higher Secondary School broke down thereby causing severe injuries to a student.
Following the incident, DESAM launched a special drive to check all the newly constructed buildings of the 15 Higher Secy Schools whether there was proper quality control or not.
It was during the course of the drive that the Johnstone School building was also found constructed without any thought of quality control, Thoithoi said.
Stating that DESAM cannot accept such practices, it asked all concerned to repair the worn out portions within next month.
In case the repairing works are not completed by next month, all those concerned including contractors should be held responsible for any eventuality, Thoithoi warned.
