Observers left with photo verification report
Complaints for re-poll in 177 polling stations received

Imphal, February 13 2012:
The three Special Observers, who were deputed by Election Commission of India for verification and comparison of the photographs of the electorates taken during the time of casting their votes with those in the Electoral Rolls as well as to look into the complaints for re-poll from various political parties and candidates, left today along with a report which will be submitting to the ECI.
Addressing media persons in this regard, N Prabin, Joint Chief Electoral Officer , Manipur, said that the verification and comparison of photos was conducted in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer at Lamphelpat since yesterday.
The photo comparison for the constituencies in Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Wabgai and Keirao were conducted today.
The Joint CEO informed that the three Special Observers left Imphal at around 5 pm today.
During their stay here, the Observers recorded the statements of ROs concerned and made a report which they will submit to the ECI for necessary actions.
He said that the ECI will minutely go through the report before taking any decision over complaints for re-poll.
The Joint CEO disclosed that complaints for re-poll in 177 of 13 Assembly Constituencies under 6 different districts were received from various political parties and candidates.
The complaints from Imphal East district included 5 polling stations in Keirao A/C and eight in Andro A/C; complaints from Thoubal district included 13 polling stations in Wabgai A/C; 32 polling stations in Chandel A/C and 10 polling stations in Tengnoupal A/C under Chandel diosttict; 6 polling stations in Saikul A/C, 18 in Karong A/C and 6 in Kangpokpi A/C under Senapati district; 34 polling stations in Tamei A/C and 4 polling stations in Nungba A/C under Tamenglong district while the complaints from Churachandpur district included one polling station in Thanlon A/C, 14 polling stations in Churachandpur A/C and 26 polling stations in Saikot A/C .
On the other hand, speaking to media persons, Dr U Deven, candidate of Trinamool Congress in Wabgai A/C, who witnessed the photo verification process, said that cases of proxy voting in different polling stations of Wabgai A/C have been detected as the photos of the electorates in the Electoral Rolls did not match with those taken while casting their votes.
As such, re-poll in this constituency is a must.
Thamarjit, an MPSC candidate in Keirao A/C, who also witnessed the photo verification process,pointed out that in the case of Keirao A/C, there were hardly any cases of discrepancy.
President of BJP Manipur State Unit Basanta Sharma disclosed that some cases of photo mismatch have been detected in polling station number 59/15, 59/16, 59/3 and 59/14 of Saikot A/C under Churachandpur district.
