Imphal, September 01 2010:
Parents and guardians of the students of Terakhongshangbi Lower Primary School (also known as Cheitei LP), Moirang has appealed to the State Government not to abolish the school in the interest of poor students.
A press release signed by six guardians of the school's students said that most of them belong to BPL (Below Poverty Line) families who cannot send their children to private schools.
At present, there are around 55 students in the school which happens to be the only Government school in the locality.
The nearest Government is located about two kilometres away but the parents and guardians cannot afford to hire private vehicles for transportation of the young students.
It further appealed to the Education Minister to retract the decision of abolishing the school considering the plight of the poor students, if the State Government has taken any decision to this effect.
