All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has announced that action would be taken against any reporter found taking money or other gifts from candidates or political parties in connection with publication of reports related to the upcoming election to the Imphal Municipal Council schedule on May 25 .
In a statement, joint secretary of AMWJU said that it has come to the notice of the Union that some candidates and their political agents have been giving money to bribe the reporters to ensure publication of the news related to flag hoisting functions and other election related meetings.
Such practices are against the norms of journalistic conduct laid down by the Press Council of India (PCI) and the Code of Conduct (Local Adjustments) of AMWJU has also clearly stated that no reporter should take money or gifts for writing news report or publication from anyone.
If any reporter is found violating these Code of Conduct, AMWJU would take up appropriate action, the statement said, while appealing to the political parties, candidates and their political agents against offering money or gifts to the reporters as well.
