Court frees two female volunteers of DESAM

Imphal, October 15 2018:
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, passed an order today releasing the two female volunteers of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) who have been lodged in judicial custody since October 11 for their alleged involvement in the clash with police personnel inside Manipur University campus on October 10 .
The order was issued after the Final Report (FR) of the case was submitted by the 10 stating that no evidences have been found regarding the involvement of the two female volunteers on their involvement in the incident which occurred in front of Manipur University Administration Block.
It may be mentioned that the two female volunteers of DESAM, identified as Rani Ningombam (23) d/o N Pradip Meitei of Khongman Zone-IV and Soibam Manjuna Chanu (22) d/o S Joy Meitei of Ningombam Makha Leikai, were among 17 students who were detained by Singjamei PS on October 10 following a violent demonstration in front of Manipur University's Administrative Block.
On the same day, the rest of the detained students were released by the police after verification, while the two females were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West Court the next day, October 11, and remanded to judicial custody" at Manipur Central Jail.
