Kangchup Makhom villagers appeal

Following the eviction order issued by the District Judge of Senapati district, villagers of Kangchup Makhom, Sadar Hills, Senapati district, are now living under constant anxiety round-the clock.
The District Judge, Senapati district had last year notified the villagers to leave the village by March 23 this year.
Speaking to media persons, secretary of Kangchup Makhom Village Authority, Seitinlen Thouthang said, "The village was established on 1925 and the villagers have been paying hills house tax to the department concerned since 1948.Various initiatives like setting up of UJB School, electricity, MGNREGS, old age pension and other developmental projects have been provided by the State Government.
"An eviction order was issued by the Court notifying the villagers to leave the place by March 23.With no other places to go and settle down, we have been living under anxiety and trauma.
We are not outsiders who had intruded into other's territories.
Therefore, we have collectively decided not to leave the village," added Seitinlen.
Womenfolk of Kangchup Makhom village also staged a sit-in protest and appealed the authority concerned to reconsider the decision based on humanitarian reasons.
