DCI says no to JNIDS 3rd Year

The Dental Council of India has recommended the Central Government against renewal of BDS 3rd Year of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Dental Sciences (JNIDS) .
It may be recalled that JNIDS started its BDS 1st year session from 2017-18 after getting approval from the DCI and the institute, which has a capacity of 50 BDS seats, is affiliated to Manipur University.
According to a reliable source, following the completion of BDS 2nd Year, a team of DCI arrived for inspection of the institute in November last year.
During the inspection, it was found that many infrastructure like dental chairs, teaching and non-teaching staff were missing or short.
As such, looking after the shortage of proper infrastructure, DCI recommended the Central Government against renewal of permission for BDS 3rd year at JNIDS.
The source continued that in this regard, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Dental Section) sent a notice to the Director of the institute instructing the Director to make himself available before the Ministry on January 16.On the other hand, the source informed that the issue of the Dental College has also been discussed at the Chief Minister's level and necessary steps have been taken up to fill up the shortages which were pointed out by the DCI team during their inspection last year.
Tenders has been floated for purchasing the required dental chairs and notifications have also been issued for recruitment of teaching as well as non-teaching staff.
On the other hand, necessary supply orders have been relayed to the firms concerned to purchase 50 phantom heads, the source added.
The source conveyed that the Chief Minister is working to send a representation to the Ministry explaining the steps taken up by the Government to fill up the shortages.
JNIDS Director and Deputy Director will meet the Ministry officials on January 16 and push for renewal permission of BDS 3rd Year of the institute, the source added.
