DC Bishnupur hands over ID cards, certificates to transgenders

Bishnupur, September 10 2021: In yet another step towards an egalitarian Manipur, DC Bishnupur, Krishnakumar handed over ID cards and certificates to 2 transgenders of Bishnupur district who had registered at the national portal "transgender.dosje.gov.in" .

The ID cards were handed over on Friday under the Rule 5 Transgender Person (Protect ion of Rights) rules 2020 and Transgender Persons (Protection of Right) Act 2019 .

The programme conducted at DC Bishnupur Chamber was attended by ADM Bishnupur, H Bobby Sharma; AC to DC, L Bobby Singh and District Manager IT, Prashanta Oinam.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishnakumar appealed to all the transgenders of the district to register in the national portal to avail the benefits provided by the State and Central Government.

He also mentioned that L Bobby Singh would be appointed as a dedicated Nodal officer in order to facilitate the process.

It may be mentioned that the District Administration has been carrying out various activities to empower the transgender community.

The District Administration had also provided monetary and other essential items to 35 transgender in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
