Husband stabs wife to death in Bishnupur market

Imphal, May 09 2012:
In an incident that is as bizarre as it is abhorrent a man stabbed his wife to death at the crowded Bishnupur Bazar yesterday evening at around 6 .
According to police source, Khwairakpam (O) Basanti (30) was stabbed by her husband Khwairakpam Sanamatum alias Sanatomba while she was waiting for a passenger vehicle to return home at Bishnupur Bazar.
Basanti was rushed to the Bishnupur district hospital where she was administered first aid.
She succumbed to her wounds on her way to RIMS Hospital.
Basanti received stab wounds on her right chest, abdomen and other parts of the body.
According to the victim's family, the couple had started living separately since five years back following an alleged extra-marital relation of Sanatomba with another woman.
Sanatomba, a driver in the DC Office of Bishnupur district hails from Ngaikhong Khullen Mayai Leikai.
Basanti has been living with a son and a daughter at the same locality.
She is investing some money in interest to eke out a living and raise the two children.
The incident occurred yesterday while Basanti was about to return home after collecting interest at Bishnupur Bazar, the family said.
The killer-hubby was arrested by the Bishnupur police last night.
The dead body has not been claimed.
Meanwhile, apart from forming a JAC against the killing, residents of Ngaikhong Khullen Mayai Leikai have asked family members of Kh Sanamatum to leave the locality today using loud speaker.
The JAC has decided to take a decision in the interest of the two children.
Crimes against women have been rising at an alarming rate and the JAC against the rape of a housewife has been raising its pitch.
