Students' Union warns of indefinite class boycott

Students of DIET Keikol said they will boycott the second year class of DIET if assurance are not given by the Chief Minister on their demands.
Rk Ichanthoibi, Publicity Secretary of Students' Union Imphal East DIET, said at a press conference held today at Manipur Press Club, that the union has been raising their demand to appoint regular Principal, regular teachers and if appointment to Principal in-charge was to be done on seniority basis, then the same rule should be implemented in the entire district.
She added that the union has also send letter to NCERT seeking attention to the disturbance of academic class in the institute.
The union had also submitted the details of the issue and their demands in written to the concerned Minister and Department, however their has been no response from their side, added Rk Ichanthoibi.
DIET Imphal East is an important institute which served as a role model in shaping and producing qualified and trained teachers, she added.
She lamented that despite numerous MOUs and written notes for appointment with the Chief Minister, they have not been given any assurance or a chance to meet the Chief Minister even though the issue is happening in his own constituency.
If the Government continues to turn a blind eye to the issue and fails to meet the students, the union will boycott second year class of DIET Imphal East, Keikol indefinitely, she further added.
