Re-poll in 34 polling stations held amidst tight security

Imphal, February 04, 2012:
The re-poll in 34 polling stations of the five hill districts of Manipur which recently went to polls where cases of proxy voting, booth capturing and vandalizing of EVMs were witnessed, was held today amidst tight security.
With complaints of unfair means being used in the recently held election, re-poll was conducted in the nine polling stations of Chingai A/C under Ukhrul district.
The poling stations includes polling station number 45/41- Tora, 45/44- Somdal A-I, 45/45-Somdal A-II, 45/46-Somdal B, 45/49-Tuinem A-I, 45/50-Tuinem A-II, 45/54-Ringui, 45/56-Ngaimu-A and 45/57-Ngaimu-B. Altogether 4 candidates are contesting in Chingai A/C.They include MK Preshow of INC, Paul Munao of NPF, Independent candidate Khasim Vashum and NK Simmray.
The polling stations in this A/C were inspected by a team of media persons.
The media team which went around the polling stations to get a first hand knowledge witnessed security personnel from 10 companies all scattered in all the 9 polling stations in Chingai A/C.Additional security personnel of AR cordoned off the polling stations and kept a strict vigilance.
Apart from these, personnel of Manipur Police and IRB teams were also seen around the polling stations.
All the voters were carefully checked by the security personnel and sent inside the polling booth to carry out their franchise.
All those persons coming without their proof of identity were not allowed to step inside the polling stations.
All unwanted materials including mobiles and matches were prohibited from being taken inside the polling station.
Polling station number 45/44- Somdal A-I, witnessed a poll percentage of 59% with 363 voters coming out to cast their votes, out of the total number of 608 voters.
Polling station number 45/45-Somdal A-II also witnessed a total turn out of 584 voters with a poll percentage of 61.2%, while polling station number 45/46-Somdal B saw 51.9% of the voters turning up to cast their votes.
Polling station number 45/49-Tuinem A-I witnessed a poll percentage of 78.3% while polling station number 45/50-Tuinem A-II saw a poll percentage of 78.5%.Polling station number45/56-Ngaimu-A also witnessed a poll percentage of 91.73% while polling station number45/57-Ngaimu-B witnessed a poll percentage of 87.58% and polling station number 45/54-Ringui saw a poll percentage of 65.8%. Meanwhile, another team of media persons inspected the re-poll in five out of the 7 polling stations in Tadubi A/C.the polling stations include polling station number 49/17-Chawainamai Khullen (A), 49/18-Chawainamai Khullen (B), 49/19-Chawainamai Khunou, 49/21-Makhan Centre (A) and 49/22-Makhan Centre (B).
Voters of polling station number 49/21-Makhan Centre (A) and 49/22-Makhan Centre (B) were made to go through metal detectors before entering the polling station to cast their votes.
People of the area peacefully cast their votes.
Speaking to media persons, LD John, Sector Magistrate of polling station number 49/21-Makhan Centre (A) and 49/22-Makhan Centre (B) said that poling in these two polling stations was quite peaceful.
Likewise, in all the five polling stations there was peaceful voting, reported the media team.
