World Autism Day observed

World Autism Day cum Awareness Programme 2021 was held today under the theme 'Significances and Challenges in a Post Pandemic World' at the Recreation Hall of Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation Manipur, Imphal West said a statement from the HD Foundation.
The programme which is organised by the Foundation was inaugurated by its chairman Dr Sapam Jasowanta Singh.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Y Dinesh Singh said that the day recognizes and spreads awareness for the rights of people with autism and it makes the people understand and accept people with autism.
The parents needs to know the problems of the child and treat them accordingly, he added.

Speaking as the resource person, Omita Ningombam elaborated about the causes and treatment of autism.
She stated that autism is a neurodevelopment disorder characterized by deficits in social and language communication as well as repetitive behaviour and restricted interest and the range of autism symptoms varies greatly.
She also emphasized that therapy is the main treatment of the children with autism.
Dr Sapam Jasowanta Singh expressed on the need of building a more inclusive and accessible world that recognizes the contributions of all people including persons with disabilities.
He further stated that persons with autism have the right to self determination, independence and autonomy as well as the right to education and employment on an equal basis with others.
The children of HD Foundation also performed during the programme.
On the other hand, on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day (April 2), Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Manipur distributed simple gifts to select differently-abled persons by visiting them at their respective houses.
The presentation of gifts was led by the media advisor of the centre, Nimol Ningombam, who asserted that the centre will continue to extend help to the differently-abled people from time to time.
