The Republic Day celebration, 2008 was observed peacefully in a befitting manner at BASU ground, Khangabok, district headquarters, Thoubal on January 26, according to a statement issued by SP of Thoubal District Th Radheshyam Singh today.
In all eleven contingents including civil police, Assam Rifles, Home Guards, NCC and four cultural troupes participated in the parade.
Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal RK Dinesh Singh who was the chief guest of the function, unfurled the National flag and the National Anthem was played by 34 AR band party.
The parade was commanded by SDPO Jogeshchandra Haobijam, MPS.
The function was attended by about 3000 people including District Level officers.
There were no incident of protest like burning of copies of Indian Constitution, shouting of anti-National slogans or any other forms of agitation rejecting Indian Republic Day celebration in any part of Thoubal district as report in some newspapers, the SP clarified.
The reports which were given in the evening news of ISTV on January 27 and published in the local newspapers on January 28 stating that protest rejecting Republic Day celebration were held at Khangabok, Heirok, Wangjing, Thoubal Haokha, Kiyam Siphai, Umathel, Sekmaijin, Kakching, Kakching Khunou, Sugnu, etc are unfounded as there were no such incidents in any part of the district and also the security forces were deployed round the clock since 6 m of January 25 to 60 pm of January 26, the SP said.
