Imphal, November 27 2014:
The Kuki National Organisation, which is under a tripartite Suspension of Operations (SoO) with the Government of India and the State Government of Manipur since 2008, strongly condemned the cowardly attack by the Burmese-dominated Myanmar army on the Kachin Independent Army camp near Laiza on November 19, killing 22 young Kachin 'freedom fighters' .
PS Haokip, president of KNO said in a statement that the Machiavellian policies, doctrines, and acts of the junta-regime in Myanmar have been most reprehensible; more so, at a time when the Kukis and its brothers viz Kachins, Mizos, Chins, Karbis, Heimis, Zeliangrongs and Konyaks are in joviality in the aftermath of celebration of brotherhood at Chavang Kut, 2014 (Moreh) .
According to the KNO chief, the Kachins, who are blood brothers of the Kukis, were under ceasefire with the Burmese Army for 17 years, which collapsed in 2011 .
The attack on the Kachin Independent Army camp demonstrates Government of Myanmar's incapability to resolve political issues through political dialogue.
Rather than seeking solution through peaceful means, the Myanmar Government has shown its true colour of imposition and perpetration of rule by military might, the KNO president said.
"Concerning the Kuki people, eight years have passed since the signing of SoO pact and dialogue is yet to commence.
However, the Government of India has not resorted to violence.
This may be owing to democracy in India.
The cowardly attack on the Kachin Independent Army by the Myanmar army, dominated by Burmese ethnic people, shows that Myanmar and democracy remain poles apart," the KNO statement said.
"Fact of the matter is that the Myanmar's diabolic, anti-democratic and totalitarian forces hardly raised eyebrows.
For; the denouement of the celebration of brotherhood at Chavang Kut (from October 20 to November 1, 2014 at Moreh) may have been a 'paranoia' to some entities/elements around the world particularly, our neighbouring country, Myanmar.
Such a momentous, historic event in the annals of God-created "One Nation" inhabiting India, Myanmar, Bangladesh and China has been a paradigm shift; in that it reinvigorates the gist of nationalism in our freedom struggle," PS Haokip's statement further said.
"Let it be known to all that; the brotherhood-in-blood; inherited and shared by the Kukis, Kachins, Mizos, Chins, Karbis, Heimis, Zeliangrongs andKonyaks cannot, and will not, be smudged/deterred off by the 'might' and 'power' of man: be it nuclear, or conventional arms and weapons!," it also said.
"In my capacity as head of the Kuki National Organisation, I strongly appeal to all my brethren Kachins, Mizos, Chins, Karbis, Heimis, Zeliangrongs and Konyaks to rather exploit such acts of 'negation of democracy', and 'freedom and independence' as a solidified foundation for strengthening the bond of 'blood' brotherhood and nationalism, as I urge my brethren to remain avant-garde in the face of oppression and suppression wherever we are," the KNO president stated.
