Gaikhangam asserts for cultural promotion on SEACO foundation day

The 4th Foundation Day of the South East Asia Cultural Organisation (SEACO) was celebrated on August 5 at Keishampat Leirembi Community Hall, Imphal.
While giving the key note address during the function, the general secretary of the organisation Laishram Kennedy Khuman stated that SEACO has been striving since its inception to protect and conserve the cultural heritage of Manipur so as to let the people of State live with its identity.
SEACO believed that a community should maintain its tradition and culture first so as protect the identity of the particular community, Kennedy conveyed, adding that a community or ethnic is subject to extinction if they fail to protect and conserve their culture and identity.
He further stressed the need to tactfully participate in the global race by protecting the identity of the State which could in turn check the alien cultural invention.
Loss of culture will entail to loss of identity and loss of identity will automatically lead to extinction of the ethnic, Kennedy asserted in his key note address.
Addressing the function as Chief Guest, the Dy CM Gaikhangam emphasized the need to maintain the cultures of the State which were handed down by the forefather of the land.
He also mentioned that there is air of cultural consciousness among the brothers of hill people of the State who embrace Christianity owing to unanswerable to the questions of their culture raised by the foreign delegates during international conferences.
He lauded SEACO and other cultural organisations of the State for their endeavour to protect the declining identity of the State.
The Dy CM stressed the need of knowing the past history of Manipur so that the people of the State could acknowledge the identity of the land.
The President of the SEACO Koijam Keingamba presided over the foundation day while the advisor of International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) H Ibotombi Khuman, RIMS Director Prof Dr S Sekherjit Singh, Cultural Activist Vidyapati Senjam, Associate Prof of Statistics department MU Dr Kh Kumarchand, Cultural Activist Mangangcha Keisham Ibomcha and Prof of Life Science department MU Dr P Kumar attended as Guests of honour.
