Imphal, November 27 2014:
Barely 24 hours after Koutruk, Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou have offered additional land for establishment of sports university at Haraoching Chingkhong, Manipur Loumi Marup president and former Minister N Mangi has suggested Moirang Kangjeibung near Takmu lake as the better site for the proposed sports university.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Bhavan here today, N Mangi said that establishment of the sports university at a place where there are no controversies and without encroaching upon agricultural land would be in the best interest of all.
NGOs as well as the Moirang Senior Citizens have also given their consent to establishment of the sports university at Moirang Kangjeibung which is 420 acres big and closely related with the history of Manipur.
CPI too favours Moirang Kangjeibung for the proposed sports university, Mangi said.
The State Government need not spend any extra expenditure for Moirang Kangjeibung has been already acquired for development of a sports complex.
Deduction of NREGS fund by Rs 34,000 crore by the BJP-led NDA Government is an attempt to abrogate the scheme.
This generated a debate at the Rajya Sabha today and opposition parties demanded to raise the NREGS fund by Rs 4,000 crore.
Reacting to the recent statement of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh which ruled out revocation of AFSPA in the near future, Mangi termed the Government of India's stance as anti-democratic.
A memorandum would be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit to the State for investigation into the failure of Khuga Multipurpose Project and other big dams which have failed to deliver after being commissioned and develop them anew through fresh funding, Mangi said.
Trade Union leader L Sotinkumar suggested that the sports university should be set up at a place where are there no disputes.
Government employees and labourers would stage a big demonstration at Delhi on December 5 under the aegis of the All India Trade Union Congress on the demand of hiking wages.
A joint meeting of North East Government employees would be held at Imphal on December 4 and this would be followed by a mass rally on the next day, Sotinkumar said.
