National model training course of IFS begins

Imphal, October 24 2017:
A 8-day long National Model Training Course on "Integrated Farming System for Sustainable Hill Agriculture : An Option for Climate Smart Agriculture and Natural Resource Management" was set into motion today at ICAR complex, Lamphelpat .
Dr Suhel Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur attended the inaugural session as the chief guest while Dr N Prakash, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya and Kh Mohendra, Additional Director (Agriculture), Government of Manipur were the president and guest of honour respectively .
Addressing the gathering, Dr Suhel Akhtar emphasized that integrated farming system is one of the ways to double the farmers’ income .
Kh Mohendra, Additional Director (Agriculture), Manipur highlighted the importance of the training programme in the context of climate change .
Dr N Prakash in his presidential speech highlighted the achievements of ICAR in the area of integrated farming system.
He also emphasized that IFS is the most sustainable way to achieve desired productivity and profitability .
Dr MA Ansari, Scientist and Course Coordinator gave the welcome address while the keynote address was delivered by Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director i/c, ICAR, Manipur Centre.
Dr SS Roy, Scientist & Course Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks .
About 25 participants including academicians, State officials and subject matter specialists covering various disciplines have took part in the model training course .
Resource persons from various North Eastern States will share their knowledge and experiences with the participants during the course of the training .
The Model Training Course is being sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Government of India .
Meanwhile, officials of State Agriculture department led by Dr Suhel Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary and Ph Rajendro, Director of Agriculture Dept inspected fields located in Nongbram Ngamukhong area later today.
