AR troops kill one in shoot out

Imphal, December 21 2014:
Assam Rifles troops shot dead a suspected UG cadre in an encounter with a group of militants at Behiang, close to Indo-Myanmar border in Churachandpur district last night.
On the other hand, an IED exploded on the Ngasuan bridge along Singhat-Behiang road even as another IED was recovered from the same area.
An encounter broke out between a group of militants and troops of 26 Assam Rifles at Behiang near Indo-Myanmar border pillar number 39 last night.
The gun battle went on till this morning, informed a source.
AR troops conducted a search operation in and around the encounter site after the gun fight at around 10.30 am.
In the course of the search operation, one suspected militant was found dead.
However, it has not been confirmed whether the dead man was a militant or a civilian.
Nonetheless, 15 live rounds of AK ammunition and one Chinese hand grenade were recovered from near the dead body.
A police team has set off for the encounter site to retrieve the dead body, informed the source.
Meanwhile, an IED exploded over Ngasuan bridge along Singhat-Behiang road at around 10 am today.
There is no report of any casualty.
It is suspected that the IED was planted there to target AR troops who may rush to the encounter site as reinforcement.
On searching the area, another IED was detected.
It was detonated safely at an isolated place by a bomb disposal squad of the army.
Incidentally, Ngasuan bailey bridge broke down when a truck was crossing it on January 17, 2008 in which 20 persons were killed while 34 others sustained injuries.
It was constructed anew by the State PWD and inaugurated on February 7, 2009 .
