Imphal, April 21 2017:
The CorCom has paid rich and soulful tributes to the Manipuri heroes who laid down their lives in the Battle of Khongjom fought in April 1891 against invading British forces in defence of Manipur's sovereignty.
A statement issued by CorCom media coordinator Ksh Yoiheiba prayed that the valour and the supreme sacrificial spirit shown by the Khongjom war heroes may re-awaken the oppressed people of Manipur and inspire the revolutionaries who are spearheading the ongoing liberation movement.
It's time to study the essence of observing the anniversary of Khongjom War and the messages it conveys to the people of Manipur.
Manipur (Kangleipak) which remained an independent kingdom for thousands of years fell in the hands of British imperialists on account of internal conflicts, selfishness and craving for political power.
British imperialists took full advantage of these internal conflicts and confrontations but a great many sons of the soil challenged the colonialists.
They fought valiantly against the mighty British forces knowing well that they had no chance of winning the war.
However, the Govt of India has been consistently working to project the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 as a part of India's freedom struggle.
At the same time, people of Manipur are unable to unite together because of ethno-centric or communal outlooks and political agenda.
It's time for all the people to ponder over such sorry state of affairs, CorCom remarked.
It asserted that the future of all ethnic groups of the land lies in unity and co-existence.
On the occasion of Khongjom Day, the CorCom prayed that the dark clouds which have been blurring the vision of the people of Manipur may disappear and a new wave of revolutionary movement sweep across the land.
