Guwahati, February 04, 2012:
City police are taking the help of their Manipur counterparts to translate some of the incriminating documents found in the possession of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak) militant Laiphrakpam Sunil Singh alias S K. Police are exploring their suspicion of a possible link between Prepak and the Paresh Baruah-led Ulfa faction.
Singh, who was arrested on Tuesday by the operation wing of the police here with the help of the Army intelligence unit and Manipur Police, has been put in police remand for seven days and is undergoing interrogation currently.
He hails from Khurai Awang Leikai under Porompat police station in Imphal East district, Manipur.
He was taking shelter in a house near Ram Krishna Mission in Birubari area here.
The police found two laptops, incriminating documents and currency notes of Nepal and Bhutan in his possession.
"Some parts of the documents are written in Manipuri and we are taking the help of Manipur Police to translate them.
We believe the documents contain many important leads.
We also suspect that the outfit is in constant touch with the Paresh Baruah faction of Ulfa.
We found foreign currency notes and visiting cards of various places in Bhutan and Nepal in his possession, indicating his links with these two countries," said a senior police official here.
The official added, "We wanted him to be remanded in police custody for 12 days but the court agreed to only seven.
He will undergo several interrogations by intelligence agencies and the police operation wing too".
Sources in the Special Branch of Assam Police claimed that the Prepak militant was in constant touch with some of the Ulfa hardliners' leaders.
"Initial interrogation reveals that various Manipur-based outfits are trying to join hands with the Paresh Baruah faction of Ulfa.
We are hoping to get some important leads from him.
We are also scanning the laptop we found on him," said the source.
