Imphal, December 15 2008:
Protesting against abduction of PWD EE Chanambam Biren (52) of Khongman Zone II and demanding his safe release, a protest sitting was staged today at Khongman Zone II under the aegis of the Khongman Students' Club and local Meira Paibis.
Biren was abducted from his home by two unidentified armed persons at about 6.30 pm of December 12.The armed persons reportedly identified themselves as cadres of a KCP faction.
They were abducting EE Biren for the failure of Works Department to meet their monetary demand, the duo reportedly said while also asking to fulfil their demand made to PWD at the earliest.
Talking to media persons, the wife of the abducted EE decried the act of taking away her husband in front of their two children.
She asserted that victimising her husband for some matter not related to him personally but to the Department cannot be justified.
She also decried alleged lack of concern at the abduction of her husband on the part of PWD top officials.
Clarifying that there was no personnel monetary to her family, the woman maintained that the Department should look into the matter as her husband was abducted for a matter wholly concerned with the Department.
Placards which read as "Don't victimise Biren for the monetary demand made to PWD", "Release Biren immediately" etc were put up at the protest venue today.
