Imphal, July 21 2023: An all-women Congress team comprising Netta Antoinette D' Souza, president, All Indian Mahila Congress Committee; L Tilotama Devi, VP, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee; Mira Borthakur Goswami, president, Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee; Pranatee Phukan, former Minister, Assam; Ak Mirabai Devi, former Minister; M Sarma Devi, president Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee; Barnali Phukan, spokesperson, AICC; Dr Seema Sadikha, AICC met Governor Uikey and apprised her of the latest developments in the current situation in Manipur as well as the unfortunate recent video footage where two girls were paraded naked.

Governor informed her of deep shock and concern about the unfortunate incident and conveyed her instruction given to the State Government to take stringent action against the perpetrators.

Further, the Governor informed them that all sections of the society irrespective of caste, creed and religion strongly condemned the inhuman act.

She made an appeal to them to extend their fullest cooperation to restore peace and tranquillity through a peaceful and amicable dialogue.

In addition, the Governor informed them that all out efforts have already been made to resettle those displaced people who have been taking shelter in different relief camps in both valley and hill districts to their respective places.

Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi; Commissioner (Home), T Ranjit Singh and PK Jha, Secretary (Health) met Governor Anusuiya Uikey, and apprized her of the latest condition in all the relief camps of valley/hill districts and informed her about essential facilities extended by State administration to the violence affected people.

The Governor particularly told them to look into the welfare of the internally displaced people by providing necessary facilities especially mosquito nets, mattress, bed sheets, hygienic kits, milk and other dairy products for children and lactating mothers, generic medicines etc.

Further, the Governor advised them to submit a proposal to the Ministry of Health, Govt of India and also to the Indian Red Cross Society, New Delhi for providing help for the IDPs who have been taking shelter in different relief camps of both hills and valley districts.

Besides the above, Governor Uikey asked them to personally enquire after the requirements of relief camp inmates and explore ways and means to get their requirements supplied on time and matters related to the posting/transfer of Kuki Government employees working in valley districts to their respective places in hill districts was also discussed.

Representatives of Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur Branch also met the Governor and apprized her of their common programme of actions for IDPs of Manipur.

They informed the Governor that few essential items such as mosquito nets, kitchen sets, and hygienic kits have already been received from the Indian Red Cross Society, New Delhi out of which some items have already been distributed to different relief camps in Manipur except Churachandpur district, where it is being planned in coming days.

The Governor advised them that the materials received from the Indian Red Cross Society, New Delhi should be evenly distributed to all the affected people staying in various relief camps in the valley as well as hill districts.

Further, she also advised them to request the IRCS, New Delhi for more essential and required items for the needy people.

Representatives of a renowned Goa-based NGO, Street Providence met the Governor and apprised her about the activities taken up by their NGO which includes providing medicine worth Rs 2 lakh and distributing food grains worth Rs 10 lakh to the violence affected people.

The representatives also informed her about their plan to start free shelter homes in Manipur.
