Fifth North East Theatre Festival

The fifth North East Theatre Festival has commenced at Hongnemshang, NT Theater Changangei, Uchekon, Imphal today.
Six reputed theatre groups from the North East region is participating in the festival.
The festival has been organised as part of the fifth installation of an annual calendar programme of NT Theatre with an aim to promote and propagate the theatre culture within the North East region and exchange the exquisite ideas of love, peace, harmony and unity.
The inaugural programme was graced by Consultant to Government of Manipur, Dr RK Nimai, Commissioner of Arts and Culture, Revenue K Radhakumar and Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) L Upendra Sharma as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
During the programme, official website of NT Theatre was also launched by the chief guest.
Aesthetics of various art forms need to be taught to youngsters so as to inculcate the value of art, stated RK Nimai.
Number of theatre lovers in our State is decreasing at a fast pace and one of the many ways to save this rich art form is to include the essence and beauty of art in school curriculum, he added.
K Radhakumar asserted that the State Government has been planning to give activity-based financial assistance to theatre groups, associations and organizations and that a committee has been formed to frame the guidelines for the proposed initiative.
Artistes of Kalakshetra Manipur performed its production "Hungry Stone" during the programme.
Theatre groups like NT Theatre, Yumjao Lairembi Drama and Cultural Union, Aryan Theatre, Manipur, Hill Theatre of Nagaland and Sarsa, Assam are participating in the week-long festival.
