Imphal, March 17 2011:
Even as the indefinite bandh called in connection with the death of Naoba on Imphal-Ukhrul road since last morning is not very effective, suspected bandh supporters have been targeting passenger buses and other private vehicles randomly.Contending that Yendrembam Naoba of Kongpal Laishram Leikai was murdered by brothers of Ngangkham Raghu of Khurai Konsam Leikai before dumping the body into the local community pond in the night of March 13, the JAC called bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road since last morning .
The JAC has also resolved not to claim the corpse of Naoba until and unless all the accused are booked.
Although Imphal East District Police took up security measures at different points along the road to thwart any disruptive activities from bandh supporters, bandh supporters resorted to stone pelting targeting buses and other vehicles at vulnerable points where no police personnel were deployed.
Condemning the circumstances leading to the death of Naoba, a large number of people of Khurai Kongpal and Konsam Leikai staged a protest demonstration on Imphal-Ukhrul road this afternoon.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by Porompat Police Station informed that due permission has been obtained for disposal of the corpse of Yendrembam Naoba alias Bidyananda s/o Y Bankimchandra of Khurai Kongpal Laishram Leikai in case no relative or family members come forward to claim or receive the dead body by 2 pm of March 19 .
It further informed that three persons were arrested in connection with the case relating to the death of Naoba so far and remanded to police custody for 10 days for further investigation.
