Imphal, September 20 2020: COVID-19 death toll in the State has risen to 58 with two men and one woman succumbing to the contagion at RIMS and JNIMS in the last 24 hours as the number of positive cases in the State hit 8894 .

According to a source at JNIMS, one 57 year old individual from Imphal East district with diabetes as a co-morbidity breathed his last at around 6 pm yesterday.

He was admitted to the hospital on September 13 .

Another man, 53 years of age, from the same district, died at around 9.30 pm today.

He was admitted to the hospital yesterday and had hypertension as a co-morbid condition.

The other fatality was reported at RIMS at around 10 pm yesterday with a 75 year old woman from Bishnupur succumbing to the contagion.

She also had comorbid health conditions and was admitted to the hospital on September 6 .

According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Control Room Spokesperson, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar, 168 persons (106 male, 65 female) from general population and 2 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

The cases were reported from testing facilities at RIMS, Raj Medicity, RD Wing, Christian Hospital, Babina Diagnostics and other district centres across the State.

Of the 168 cases reported among civilians, 98 belong to Imphal West, 21 to Imphal East, 15 to Tamenglong and 10 to Thoubal, 8 to Bishnupur, 6 to Kangpokpi, 5 to Churachandpur, 3 to Senapati and 1 to Noney.

Of these cases, three are returnees (Churachandpur-1, Bishnupur-1, Kangpokpi-1) while the rest do not have any history of travelling outside the State.

Those who were found COVID-19 positive have been shifted to COVID Care facilities and necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing have been initiated, it said.

On the other hand, 44 persons were discharged during the last 24 hours from RIMS (2), JNIMS (3), CCC Tamenglong (6), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (8), Senapati (1), CCC Thoubal (24) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 8894 of which 6965 are civilians and 1929 are CAPF personnel, it said while adding that the cumulative number of recovered cases is 6767 which include 5156 civilians and 1611 CAPF personnel.

The number of active cases is 2070 of which 1755 are civilians and 315 are CAPF personnel, it said and continued that the recovery rate is 76.08 pc .

Meanwhile, as per a latest update from JNIMS, 43 out of the 585 samples tested today were found positive for the virus.

On the other hand, 42 persons from Imphal West tested COVID-19 positive following Rapid Antigen Test at RIMS and other private hospitals in the district.

Of the 42 cases, 4 are CRPF personnel, 3 are CISF personnel and 3 are from Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai.

14 new cases were also detected via Rapid Antigen Test conducted today in Thoubal.
