Pakistan angle is a smart excuse for exodus of North-East people
India Today | New Delhi, August 23, 2012 | UPDATED 11:44 IST
Yes the MMSes and the doctored images might have emerged from Pakistan but to claim that they alone were responsible for causing fear psychosis among people from the North-East is another 'rumour'
People from the North-East left different states because of fears over their well being and events in Maharashtra and Mumbai in particular have had a huge role to play in the exodus. According to them, North-East students in Pune began facing attacks on August 8. More than 10 people were beaten up within three days. The incident led to panic within the community, with its members meeting the police commissioner to lodge a complaint.
But the beating up of Khomdrom and his subsequent departure was still not the trigger for the subsequent exodus of people. For this the Mumbai police is to blame. The Pune Police too must accept its share of blame for being lax in investigating the attacks against people from the North-East in the city, waking up to make arrests only when people started leaving in droves.
