Zo Indigenous Forum celebrates Indigenous day
Zo Indigenous Forum (ZIF) today celebrates International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples day at MZP Conference Hall.
2019 is declared as “The Year of Indigenous language” by the UNO General Assembly, and the Indigenous day theme is “Indigenous language”. As a part of this year celebration ZIF release Pang language which they have documented it, the documentaries include folktales, songs, dance, narrations and pictures that can highlight pang community.
Pang is a small community living in the southern part of Mizoram. According to the UNSECO Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger2011, 13 (thirteen) languages of different Zo tribes were classified as under threat of extinction.
The afternoon session was dedicated on *the draft Indian Forest (Amendment) Bill 2019*. If the draft bill is pass in its present form it will have major impact on the Zo indigenous communities on their economic, social and cultural rights, also it violates UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
Pang Zirlai Pawl in their press release today states that they were against the draft bill and will support all the initiatives of ZIF on this issue.
