World Environment Day organized at Imphal
The League of Women organized observation of World Environment Day 2022 with one day painting competition and one day tree plantation drive as a part of global celebration on 4th June 2020 (one day ahead). The observation was organised in collaboration with Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi High School which has sponsored by Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur.
During the media briefing, Ms Tanuja Khumukcham secretary League of Women said, as we all know “United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)” held World Environment Day globally on 5 June since 1974, the League of Women is also organising one day painting competition for Bhairodan High School students at its school premises and tree plantation drive at Nongpok Torban of Imphal Turel on 4th June 2022, one day ahead of international day. Painting competition was organised in two category i.e students of class 3 to 6 and class 7 to 10 respectively with attractive prizes.
Tanuja further thanks to Hon’ble Minister of Environment Th. Biswajit Sing and Director of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur as well as Smart City groups who helped to organise this event successfully.
She also said that to organise such painting competition for young students will give emphasis and encourage to learn the value of climate change and global warming in our universe which became more crucial. She furthers mention to promote sustainable developments in this region shall bring a better balance to global warming.
Planting trees is good however to follow up till its well survive and grown up is more important which will do by Bhairodan students. Now young and future generation will know how to contribute for a better environment. Observation was organised on the theme of this year’s World Environment Day “Only One Earth”

The League of Women, is an indigenous peoples’ women organization for justice, empowerment and economically self-sustain as well as community participation in the large context. The oraganisation is base in Manipur and India’s North East.
