A two-day workshop for the North East Region Urban Development Programme got under way at The Heritage Kohima. By 2015, the programme would provide efficient and financially sustainable water supply and sewerage services to the people. Secretary, public health engineering department, Zhaleo Rio, spoke on the importance of water and sewerage projects.
The project components of the phase-I, agreed between ADB and the Centre, comprises two components, namely urban infrastructure and service improvement; and project management and capacity building of the urban local bodies through institutional and financial reforms.
The total cost of the programme is estimated to be Rs 1,371.4 crore, spread over three tranches.
The project is being financed by the Centre and the Asian Development Bank in the ratio 30:70.
