Rajiv Gandhi University conducts National Workshop on Integrated Amrita Meditation and Motivation
A One Day National Workshop on ‘Integrated Amrita Meditation and Motivation’ was organized today at Mini Auditorium, Rajiv Gandhi University which was hosted jointly by the Departments of Sociology and Social Work. The Workshop was conducted by two of the National Coordinators of Youth Empowerment Group, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham- Mr. Narinder Anand and Ms. Shweta.
Integrated Amrita Meditation (IAM) is a technique that combines different meditation methods, relaxing Yoga stretches and breathing exercises. Workshop aimed to help the participants in stress release, improved concentration, focus development and creativity.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha and Finance Officer Prof. Otem Padung also contributed to the event which was attended by over 100 participants including Heads of Departments and Teaching Faculties as well as Non-Teaching Staff. It was highlighted that as the end semester exam approaches, there is more stress and pressure on students due to which they often suffer from other mental health illnesses such as anxiety and depression.
Also, the day-to-day stress and work-related stressors affect the mental and physical health of teaching and non-teaching staff affecting their overall efficiency and well-being. Everyone is prone to suffer from stress and anxiety irrespective of a person’s identity, profession, age, or gender. While it is not that we can always control such things which is a part and parcel of life, but it is always better to be ready to deal with it.
The participatory sessions were filled with self-actualization tools, yoga and stress buster activities. The session contained awareness games, relaxation exercises and motivational talks and screening of short inspirational video clips of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The resource persons also spoke on importance of setting life goals, increasing awareness and consciousness amongst the youths stating that they are the future leaders and insisted to follow the universal human values of Love and Peace as eternal principles in their personal and professional lives.
The success of the workshop could be felt by the concluding feedbacks given by the participants at the end of the workshop, few feedbacks are as followed:
“The session helped me to feel my inner emotions which I was struggling with for past few months”
“There is so much of stress in life and by attending this session, I at least know how to relieve my life stresses on my own positively”
“I knew that meditation and yoga is helpful in relieving stress but never experienced one earlier and today, I got to experience that too and I will continue to practice it”
The workshop ended with group photo followed by light refreshment. The resource persons have also conducted sessions at ITBP Camp, Yupia and Government Secondary School, RGU Campus.
