Words for Yours Eyes Only
K. Radhakumar *
Away from home!
I have not been away from home
For too long
But I have begun to miss
The coziness of my home.
The call of my home –
It is real.
Now that I am away from you
I know you are close to my heart.
My love means everything to me.
The birds are flying outside my window;
The sun is shining in the blue sky.
Brightly coloured butterflies
Enliven the nearby garden.
It was not so two days ago
There at home
I had a quarrel with my wife.
It was stupid of me
To pick a quarrel with my love
Just because
She did not pick her words carefully.
As if I would!
I feel like swaying in the wind
And returning home with a smile.
I will smile at my love
And I know she will smile back.
Return I must
Not putting on airs
Not with everything for her summer wardrobe.
I feel like
My love smiles back.
The very thought about you
And the world changes.
A smile is contagious –
It affects the quarrelsome
And the elderly couple is no exception.
