Winter Blues
K. Radhakumar *
I am a light sleeper now
And wake at the slightest sound.
Once I have woken
I lie wakeful all night.
Why is dawn waking up before its time?
I need to get some sleep.
I need to get some sleep.
The hands of the clock go fast around;
I just hate the ticking of the clock -
The whole house echoes.
It has already chimed midnight.
Doesn't time fly?
It must have flown well into the small hours.
I need to get some sleep.
I need to get some sleep.
Today is Friday
And this Friday night is a long winter's night,
An enormously long night.
In the freezing coldness of the night
I hear myself think...
Cold thoughts
Thoughts on myself
The man that I am.
I am not the man
Of my childhood dreams.
It's the thought that counts.
I don't have a wink of sleep
The whole night long!
Tomorrow is a new day.
Sleep or no sleep
I'll make a fresh start.
I have a lot of work waiting,
A lot of work waiting;
I'll work like there's no tomorrow.
My morning's is not a smiling face.
Its manner is cold and distant.
I do not know
Why I wake to a hostile world.
Perhaps it's not just a long winter's night
And not just waking to a grey sky.
There is more to this cold winter's day
Than meets the eye.
I am getting old
I am getting old...
I think I am beginning to feel my age.
