One-day National Webinar on the topic ‘NEP-2020 & Language Education in India’ was organized on the 28th of July 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh jointly by the Departments of English and Hindi to mark the 3rd Anniversary of the launch of National Educational Policy 2020. It is to be noted that Rajiv Gandhi University, in tune with the directives of the Ministry of Education, has organized several programs this week to celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of NEP 2020.
The Resource Person for the One-Day National Webinar was Prof. Nigamananda Das, Head of the Department of English, Nagaland University. Prof. Nigamananda Das is a highly reputed scholar in the domain of English Writing in India, especially in the context of North-East India.
Prof. Das spoke extensively on the topic and enlightened everyone on how the implementation of the objectives of the NEP 2020 will have far-reaching and positive impacts on the existing language education scenario in the country and the region.
The Welcome Address was delivered by Prof. Bhagabat Nayak, Prof. & Head, Dept. of English, RGU. The concept of the webinar was explained by Prof. K. C. Mishra, Dept. of English. The Resource Person was introduced by Dr. C. K. Panda while Ms. Bompi Riba was the MC for the programme. The programme was chaired by Dr. Bijay Raji, CoE, Rajiv Gandhi University.
The message from the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Prof. Saket Kushwaha was read by Dr. Doyir Ete, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English. In his message, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor highlighted upon the need for implementing the objectives of the NEP 2020 for the greater benefit of the young generation. He pointed out that the proper implementation of the NEP 2020 will eventually lead to zero drop-out in higher education and at the same time it will also increase employability.
In the last three years, the Department of English has worked extensively in incorporating the objectives of the NEP 2020 in the syllabi of the different courses offered by it. The Department has now come up with a new syllabus on the subject for the Four Year Under-Graduate Degree Programme (FUYP) for the colleges affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University and the same has been ratified by the competent authority of the University.
The Department believes that by incorporating the objectives and vision of the framers of the NEP 2020, the learners will be better equipped to carve a niche for themselves in the present competitive world.
The programme ended with the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Arun Kr. Pandey, Associate Professor, Dept. of Hindi, Rajiv Gandhi University. The Webinar was attended by teachers, research scholars and students.
