Water supply, girls' toilets lowest in Manipur schools
Seven Sisters Post | David Mayum | Imphal (Apr 28):
While enrolment in private schools in Manipur is one of the highest in the country, drinking water provision and provisions of girls’ toilets in schools in the state are the lowest, says the annual status of education report (ASER) 2011 of the Northeast state.
According to the ASER, at the national level, enrollment in private schools has risen remarkably in the age group of 6-14 years increasing from 18.7% in 2006 to 25.6% in 2011. Each of Kerala and Manipur has more than 60% of the children enrolled in private schools.
Among other indicators, drinking water provision in Manipur is the lowest in the country — only 6.4% against 73.5% at the national level. Even girls’ toilet provision in the state is also the lowest in the country, 15.3% against 43.8% at the national level.
