War and Peace
K. Radhakumar *
A troop of people
Braving the brave new world
Of gathering storm
Throng into the sports stadium
And release hundreds of white doves.
The sun shines bright
And the white doves fly
Cooing softly.
Peace!
Global peace is our watchword.
Word!
My thoughts turn to a World without wars
And are sweet but useless.
Peace not as a concept
But a way of life.
A war is a naughty boy.
Mother’s worry is no concern of mine,
Says the problem child.
There are border issues;
There are communities at war.
Are there warrior tribes?
Mothers say no to war.
War kills –
No age discrimination
Children, young man, unarmed civilians.
Death has lost its sanctity.
The Age produces mothers
Who do not weep over
The death of their children.
Lord Krishna asked Arjun
To go to war
Against his kith and kin
For life and death are beyond you.
Our modern mothers
Do not philosophize about life and death
In a boring way;
They give practical advice
For practical problems.
They say no war
For there will be no winner in a nuclear war.
They gather with their hair flying in the wind
And release hundreds of white doves.
