- Imphal zoo inundated, animals safe
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, July 14:
Six-year-old Maibam Latika is unhappy. The Class I student will not be able to visit her favourite place - the zoo - this weekend too. The recent rains in Manipur have flooded the state's only zoological garden and left visitors disappointed. The zoo has been closed to visitors since July 8 and the authorities have been forced to shift some of the inmates to safer areas on its premises.
However, no animals were killed. Officials at the Manipur Zoological Garden, said almost all of the eight-hectare zoo area has been under knee-deep water for more than a week. The officials are hoping that the water will recede soon.
