Vestigial Fundamentals
Jodha Chandra Sanasam *
Do not call me a rat please, I feel it scurrying ticklish
under my cloths, this spot-that spot.
I don't intend to be one
of the scuttling and scampering insolent creatures
or one of the pig-size rats, either, that move sluggish
beside the corridors along the edges of the drains
around our city-hospitals, fearless of the milling crowd,
the jostling friends, relatives, near and dear ones
of patients in the wards, around here and there ever.
Drag me not in the pack of cohorts too
those planting hindrance to others'natural living;
for I believe in existentialism.
Creatures with souls we're
we each want to live a life of our own,
do not dictate me to live my life
under your tirade impeccable
and fundamentals vestigial;
your fundamentals are not my fundamentals.
I live a life on my own instinct, my own intuition
under my own Sindam Takpa Koklen preceptor
not challenging Nature's law;
my stance is not against humanity
nor is it against human rights,
or against the constitution of my land.
I'm not admiring the laissez faire nature
among our brethren
yet I say theirs is more emancipating
than your playing cruel hindrance
to people's own choice of living.
I do wish our brethren excel in spheres
to be acclaimed by the milieu across the world;
but a hindrance to others' living I'm averse to it.
If you call me to partake in a cause
pertinent to the genuine values of life
I'll be there; I'll follow your footsteps;
if you ask me even to be
in the forefront with the pennant
I'll gladly do so too.
It only so happened
that nobody paid attention when I called;
so I'm trying to plod on alone with my own belief.
Do not think of it even, to sabotage my humble steps.
So allow me to live my own life;
retracing my own path and living my own way;
and this way I feel
I'm nearer to the celestial primogenitor.
