Unannounced departure-I
Potshangbam Nyaydhar *
Oh! Master
For thy unannounced departure,
Which I had no inkling
People mourn in numbers.
In the dark silent night.
Oh! Master
Thee left already for the yonder shore.
To journey the brighter path,
In the heaven above.
Leaving behind thy beloveds.
Oh! Master
Art thee listening?
Who cometh and goeth.
The pung and kartals,
Playing in melancholy tune.
For master to company or send ye off
To the heaven above.
Oh! Master
Thy younger grandson,
Dressed in white.
Standing by his mother's side, silently sobbed.
For the old days won't be new again.
Ye shall become a memory.
Till this life goes on.
Oh! master
Even the greens,
Under the night sky,
Seems deeply sorrowed,
For masters sudden departure.
That the greens silently mourned,
With down cast eyes.
For masters soulless body.
Oh! Master
In its saddest tune .
Again the pung and kartals played.
For masters funeral march,
To the grave.
To perform the final rite.
As master lie asleep,
At thy final bed.
Thy beloved's art paying respect,
For the final rite,
To be performed.
May this "rite of passage".
Be a new beginning for thee.
Deeply saddened thy son.
Holding burnt torch in hand.
Hesitant to consign ye into flame.
Yet, ready to torch,
The bed of pyre.
To keep master warm.
In thy way to heaven.
With heart breaking tears.
Thy son lighted the logs.
To keep comfort and warm.
In masters final settlement.
In the place heaven above.
Oh! Beloved master.
Rest in eternal peace.
For each day we will live,
To follow thee in heaven.
As ye treaded on earth .
Ye shall continue the journey elsewhere.
