UNLF leader gives Assam cops the slip
The Telegraph | Pankaj Sarma | Guwahati, April 12:
Failure of Assam police and their intelligence machinery to unearth the true identity of a senior functionary of Manipur’s United National Liberation Front (UNLF) paved the way for the accused to get bail and flee the country.
Laurembam Iwanthaba, alias N. Nanao Singh, who is on the wanted list of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and currently believed to be hiding somewhere in Myanmar, was arrested by Guwahati police from a rented house in Panbazar area of the city on October 12, 2010.
The accused, however, succeeded in hiding his real identity by giving police a fake name.
