India is a young country with 35 per cent of its population under the age of 20. This can be both an asset and a liability depending on the physical and intellectual quality of this youth population. For the Northeast, the burgeoning youth populace coupled with inadequate employment avenues could conflate into a major challenge for governments in the next three decades.
Our education system seems to be the biggest culprit here. It churns out unskilled, unemployable graduates by the thousands year after year. This accumulated pool of unskilled people is also under-utilised and therefore frustrated.
In a region that is on the boil and where militant groups are ready to employ anyone who can wield a gun, a frustrated and angry youth population could become the biggest threat to the internal security of India
