Professor Edward A. Rodrigues from the Centre for the study of Social Systems, School of Social Science of Jawaharlal Nehru University was speaking as resource person at the seminar/workshop program of the 3rd World Zomi Convention underway from October 25-27 at Lamka, Churachandpur.
And the world over, ‘tribals’ have been at the cruel receiving end of marginalisation, forced displacement and pauperisation,” he said, presenting his paper on the Future of Ethnicity (Rethinking ethnicity within the political economy of development in tribal areas). “But then we realize that we have not created this term. Someone else has given it to us, and we have come to follow it.”
