Training Programme for the Remand Advocates and the Retainer Lawyers

Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in association with Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), New Delhi organized a “One Day Training Programme for the Remand Advocates and the Retainer Lawyers” on 8th September, 2019 at the Conference Hall, ADR Building, Lamphelpat, Imphal.
The Programme is presided by Smt. G. Gaiphulshillu, Member Secretary, Manipur State Legal Services Authority; Shri Ojesh Mutum, Addl. Member Secretary, MASLSA; Ms. Amrita Paul, Senior Programme Officer, CHRI and Ms. Palak Chaudhari, Project Officer, CHRI.

The Training Programme is participated by around 50 (fifty) participants which includes Remand Advocates attached to all the Courts in Manipur and the Retainer Lawyers of the Front Offices.
Ms. Palak Chaudhari, Project Officer, Prison Reform Programme, Commonwealth Human Right Initiative (CHRI), New Delhi as Resource Person gave lecture and presentation on “Providing legal aid to arrested persons at police stations, production stage as well as at Prisons”.

Ms. Amrita Paul, Senior Programme Officer, Access to Justice (Prison Reform Programme), Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), New Delhi gave lecture and presentation on “how to give legal aid to Foreign National Prisoners and allowing Access to Justice for them”.
The training session is followed by Open House Discussion on key issues and challenges in providing effective legal aid to all the prisoners including foreign nationals lodged in the two jails of Manipur.
