Traffic comes to halt on NH-39
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra | Imphal (July 12):
Traffic on the Imphal-Moreh stretch of NH-39 came to a halt on Thursday following torching of two vehicles on the arterial route. Communication on the Imphal – Dimapur section of the highway has already been paralysed for the past couple of days.
Around 6 pm on Wednesday, unidentified armed persons with sophisticated weapons waylaid two Imphal-bound vehicles – a Tata Sumo and a Mahindra Bolero — at a place between Bongyang and Thamnapokpi village on NH-39 and set them on fire by pouring petrol without telling anything to the drivers and passengers. According to reports, the gunmen numbering around five to six took away mobile phones and cash from the passengers before leaving the site.
