Top-down policies: Hazards of responding in North East

Over the years the response of political parties to protests over development induced destructions by peoples’ movements across Northeast India has been standard, to say the least.
The methodology of the state Governments is simple if we survey various strategies adopted to tackle protests in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur. There has been violent reprisal by the state in some instances.
Here are some case studies where the response of the state has been critical in either prolonging the protests or institutionalizing the standards. In fact a pattern might emerge from the systemic conflict management tactics adopted by the state to really undermine the fragile democracy in India’s Northeast and it will be like turning against oneself.
